As reported in the February, 1998 issue of Jeff Cooper's Commentary: The excellent line of Blaser firearms has heretofore been marketed in the United States by Autumn Sales, of Fort Worth, Texas. That situation has changed, and one now orders a Blaser through SIGArms, of Corporate Park, Exeter, New Hampshire. However, if you can find any useful Blaser info at the SIG site, you're doing better than I. Instead, visit Blaser and click on ACTIVE HUNTING at the bottom of the page for the site in English. SIGARMS Sold -- Michael Luke and Thomas Ortmeier, two private investors from Emsdetten, Germany, have purchased SIG Arms, Inc. The sale includes SIGArms, Inc., in Exeter, NH; SIGArms Sauer in Eckernforde, Germany; Blaser Hunting Rifles in Isny, Germany; and SIGArms AG in Neuhausen, Switzerland. SIGArms Hammerli in Lenzburg, Switzerland, is being repositioned as a sales, assembly and service organization. [Feb. 2005] Paul Jimenez, Bryco's ex-plant manager, bought the defunct firm in 2004 at an auction in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Jacksonville, FL. Bryco and founder Bruce Jennings declared bankruptcy two years ago to avoid paying $24 million in court-ordered compensatory damages to Brandon Maxfield, who was 7 when he was accidentally shot in 1994 by a defectively designed Bryco handgun. Maxfield and his legal team tried to buy Bryco at auction to prevent it from being resurrected, but were outbid by Jimenez in August. Though Jimenez said funds for the $510,000 purchase came from various undisclosed lenders, documents show that the bulk of the amount came from Shining Star Investments, a Texas company owned by Bryco's former president  Jennings' ex-wife. Shining Star has been marketing guns made by Jimenez Arms (was in Costa Mesa, CA; now located in Las Vegas, NV) guns to dealers nationwide. The production and sale of Jimenez Arms' first weapon, a 9-millimeter pistol, was banned in California earlier this year after the gun failed safety tests at three state-certified labs. At one lab, the gun failed at a rate 15 times higher than that allowed under state guidelines. Jimenez Arms recently applied for a business license in Henderson, Neveda, where he intends to move the company. Nevada has no testing facility or requirement such as are found in California.BSA Imports, LLC has commenced an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors pursuant to Chapter 727, Florida Statutes and is no longer conducting business.
July 2002 -- Filed bankruptcy due to litigation costs. The remaining inventories of handgun makers Davis Industries, Republic Arms and Talon Industries have been purchased by Cobra Enterprises, Inc. of McAllister, Montana. Cobra will then resume production of the Davis derringers and semi-auto pistols, the Talon pocket pistols with loaded chamber indicators, as well as the Republic Arms Patriot pistol, all under the Cobra name.

How to identify a "drop-free" magazine: Look for the square notch at the top-rear of the magazine. The "old-style" has a U-shaped notch. The "drop-free" are usually preferred because they have a full metal liner to prevent bulging and, when loaded, will drop free of the grip frame when the magazine release is activated.

SIG and SIG Sauer -- SIG (Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft or Swiss Industrial Company) is a separate entity from SIG Sauer. SIG Sauer firearms (such as the Model 550 and 970 rifles) are developed by SIG in Switzerland. Because of Switzerland's strict neutrality tradition, Swiss laws on exports are very restrictive. Therefore, SIG designs are manufactured as a joint arrangement by J.P. Sauer & Son, Germany. SIG Sauer pistols such as the P226 are imported by SIGARMS of Exeter, NH. Some of the confusion is evidenced by the fact the P210 pistol is made by SIG but the P220 is made by SIG Sauer. -- edited Feedback to American Guardian magazine, January, 1998 issue, from S.P. Halbrook of Fairfax, VA.
2008: SIGARMS changed its corporate name to SIG SAUER.
March 2009: SIG SAUER, Inc. is the largest member of a worldwide business group of firearms manufacturers that includes J.P. Sauer & Sohn and Blaser GmbH in Germany and Swiss Arms AG in Switzerland.

In 2003, Taurus International Manufacturing Co. (TIMI) announced the addition of a serial number/model number research system to its website. The system allows consumers and law enforcement agencies to enter the serial number for firearms manufactured or imported by TIMI and retrieve the model number and year of manufacture. According to Taurus officials, the system will assist law enforcement agencies that may only have a firearm's serial number. By accessing the new service, law enforcement will have instant access to detailed technical and ballistic information as well as photos of the product. In addition, customers who may not know the model number will be able to get an instant response. Select "Customer Care" section, then choose "Find my model."
Winchester Ammunition and Browning Firearms have agreed to a new, long-term deal that will allow Browning to continue making firearms under the Winchester name. The agreement covers modern firearms including the Super X shotguns and rifles but not Model 94s, Model 70s or the 1300, which were produced in U.S. Repeating Arms Co.'s now shuttered New Haven, Conn., plant.
Last-ditch efforts to salvage the New Haven plant by an investment group called the American Firearms Company were abandoned as a result, ending any hope the plant might reopen. -- "Gun Talk," Outdoor Life magazine, November 2006
